CTB lock - here comes decryption or yet another scam?
CTB has jumped into my laptop. Critical files for my business blocked.
I would much appreciate your commonts on the following:
1/ if I do not deify my data, but some utems are critical. maybe, I would just pay the ransom... but i do not want to support the scam!
2/ I have found this reference/ The website promises to eliminate decryption. Shall I trust it? https://decryptcryptolocker.com/
3/ my IT mate discorages me from option 2. he says I would better follow elaborate recovery instructions. For instance, he advises http://malwareprotectioncenter.com/2015/...tb-locker/Huh

RE: CTB lock - here comes decryption or yet another scam?
Before trying option 1 or 2 , make a total backup of your HD.
So if anything goes wrong, you can go back.

Option 1 : The website can be trusted. I didnt find any warnings
about that website. Its for decrypting a file, it wont remove ctb-lock from
your PC.
Copy files and try this from an uninfected PC.
But know that you basicly give your documents to another party
that can read the information inside.
Dont know if they do, but better to be safe.
So if the files are sensitive, dont do this.

Option 2 : Is the way to go for removing ctb-lock and restoring files
from automated backups before ctb-lock encrypted them.
